Orit Shimoni has been writing and performing her own material for well over a decade. She formed ‘Little Birdie’ in Montreal and released her first two albums there,Cinematic Way, and I Left the City Burning, which received high and wide acclaim. (The first made the top 3 Canadian albums of the year on CBC radio’s Fresh Air,alongside Arcade Fire and Feist, the second was in the top 5 in the folk charts, for three consecutive months.) From Montreal, Shimoni moved to Berlin, where she wrote and recorded her third album, Sadder Music, Live in Berlin. Since then, she has opted to live on, and for the road, living out of a suitcase with no fixed address and touring solo full-time in true troubadour fashion, often working with local musicians she meets on her path. Shimoni performs several shows each month throughout Europe and Canada for a rapidly growing number of fans, who celebrate her velvety but powerful voice, intelligent lyrics, and storytelling humour between songs. In September 2012 she released her fourth album, a solo acoustic collection entitled Bare Bones, and now, a fifth is ready, Bitter is the New Sweet, recorded in Toronto with some incredible Canadian talent performing all over it.
A new album is in production with Juno winners Julian Fauth and James Thomson.
